Why this works
Ruth’s messages add one clue at a time that you could hear, see or touch: the humming, the kettle, the warm cup. The story never says “ghost”, so the reader puts it together.
Showing clues instead of naming the monster is what makes a chat feel creepy rather than silly. The last reply turns the fear into warmth without explaining everything.
