What makes a text story work

A text story is a conversation told one bubble at a time, so every message has to earn the next one. The stories here share one quiet rule: an ordinary opening, one detail that does not fit, and a last reply that changes everything before it.

Each story page has a short “Why this works” note that names the storytelling move it uses, from setup and payoff to dramatic irony, so you can borrow it for your own.

From a story here to your own video

Every story has an “Open in the maker” button. It loads that exact conversation into the free text story maker in its own chat colors, where you can change any name or message, preview it live and download the image with no account.

Press “Make this a video” and each message becomes its own image clip, with a short typing pause between messages, on an editable timeline. The chat images are drawn from your text, so they use no AI image credits. Keeping the video uses a free FrameCompose account.

Write your own text story

Start with the feeling you want the last message to cause: a laugh, a chill, a lump in the throat. Then work backwards and give every earlier message one job.

Keep lines as short as people really text, use invented names, and label fiction as fiction.

Frequently asked questions

A few quick answers before you jump in.

What is a text story?

A text story (also called a text message story or chat story) is a short story told as a conversation between two people, one message at a time. On TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Reels it usually plays as a video of the chat.

Are these real conversations?

No. Every story on these pages is original fiction written for FrameCompose. The names, places and events are invented.

Can I turn one of these stories into a video?

Yes. Press “Open in the maker” on any story, change what you like, then press “Make this a video”. Each message becomes an image clip with a typing pause between messages, ready on an editable timeline. Keeping the video uses a free FrameCompose account.

How many people are in each story?

Two. The maker draws one-to-one chats, so everyone else in a story arrives through what those two people say, the way Sam, Bella and Priya do.

Do I need an account to read or edit them?

No. Reading the stories, editing them in the maker, previewing and downloading the chat image are free with no account. Keeping one as a video uses a free FrameCompose account.

Write your own text story

Open the free text story maker, write a two-person chat and watch it preview live. Download the image with no account, or turn it into an editable video. Keeping the video uses a free FrameCompose account.
